On March 15, Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas) introduced the Free Competition in Currency Act of 2011. Also known as H.R. 1098, the bill would make a number of changes in the nation's currency laws, namely:
1. Ending all taxes on gold and silver coins and bullion at the federal, state and local levels;
2. Repealing the legal tender laws;
3. Ending the prohibition on private mints, halting all current legal proceedings against them, and voiding all previous convictions suffered by their operators.
